Buckeye Madness

The 1936 Season

The 1936 season started with an OSU record crowd of 72,948 for the Buckeyes opener against New York University and ended with Ohio State's 400th all-time game being played against Michigan.  The AP weekly football poll appeared for the first time during the 1936 season with Minnesota being named the National Champs.  The Buckeye Defense posted 5 shut-outs in 1936 and was shut-out once themselves by Pittsburgh. The Buckeyes had three All Americans this season: end Merle Wendt, tackle Charlie Hamrick and guard Inwood Smith.

Buckeye Bytes

"MSU posted the most offensive yards gained per game against the Buckeye D this season.  Yes the Spartans have a great offense, but if our Defense didn't have to spend 3/4 of the game on the field the opposing offenses wouldn't have as much success.

I still think we need to get away from the spread offense and run a traditional backfield set with Pittman getting the ball 25+ times per game."
